Over the last two decades, many services have emerged trying to duplicate Affordable Housing Online data or even outright stealing our data and reporting it as their own. In the words that follow, we will list each legitimate and illegitimate source and explain how they fall short of their promises of actionable affordable housing information.
Affordable Housing Online encourages you to be aware of other services and how they treat you and your information.
In 2001, Affordable Housing Online was the first website in history to publish data focused on affordable rental housing. Over the last 22 years, we have built the largest, most thorough database of affordable housing opportunities in the U.S., even surpassing the U.S. government's own housing databases.
Our Salisbury, Maryland (USA) based, human research team has verified each property and housing waiting list in our database.
All of our data and content is curated by affordable housing experts. Our founder, Dave Layfield, is a 30+ year affordable housing professional and has developed, built and managed affordable housing, and does to this day. Our team includes multiple career staff trained in affordable housing programs including Section 8 vouchers and specific housing programs like Section 515 and LIHTC.
Housing opportunities can be fleeting. A Section 8 waiting list or a property waiting list may open and close in a matter of days or even hours. We monitor thousands of housing providers with both proprietary technology and human researchers to ensure we are reporting on opportunities in a timely manner.
We take great care to provide thorough, well written and actionable data about every housing opportunity we report on. We just don’t tell you a waiting list is opening. We explain who qualifies, how to apply and when you should do so. We take great care in ensuring our data is accurate by manually researching or calling housing providers for details not readily available.
Affordable Housing TipStay in contact with the housing agency after applying.
While on a waiting list, always keep your information up to date. If you get selected for housing, the agency needs to know how to reach you!
